PhD in Biology, specializing in Plant Breeding and Plant Science
Hagigat Hashimova is a well-known scientist and expert with over 25 years of rich experience in cereal breeding, seed production, and agricultural research. She completed her Bachelor’s degree at Baku State University and her Master’s degree at Ganja State University, and earned her PhD in Plant Breeding from the Research Institute of Crop Husbandry.
Main activities and achievements:
• Scientific activity: Since 2022, she has been serving as a Senior Researcher in the cereal breeding program at the Research Institute of Crop Husbandry.
• Management experience: From 2016 to 2022, she served as the Director of the Tartar Regional Experimental Station of the Research Institute of Crop Husbandry, and from 2007 to 2016, she held the position of Head of the Barley Breeding Department.
• Breeding achievements: She is the author of well-known barley varieties such as “Garabagh 33”, “Gunesh”, “Nurana”, “Buta”, “Ulduz”, “Khari Bulbul”, and wheat varieties “Khan Gizi” and “Topkhana”. She holds 3 patents for barley varieties.
International experience:
• Global cooperation: She has participated as an expert in international projects funded by the World Bank, GIZ, Oxfam, and the European Union. In 2026, she served as a national expert for the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in assessing the agricultural sector.
• International specialization: She has participated in ICARDA, CIMMYT, and FAO training programs in Egypt, Poland, Uzbekistan, and Georgia, receiving international certificates in plant genetic resources and modern breeding methods.
Practical experience and scientific contributions:
• Scientific publications: She is the creator of more than 60 new breeding lines submitted to international gene banks (including the Svalbard Global Seed Vault). She is the author of more than 20 scientific articles.
• Practical support: She possesses deep professionalism in the development of the seed value chain and in conducting training for farmers on plant protection and agrotechnical care.
Currently, alongside her scientific activities, she continues to work as a consultant expert on creating climate-resilient varieties and ensuring national food security.
