Garib Novruzlu

Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, Associate Professor in Plant Breeding and Seed Production

Garib Novruzlu is an experienced scientist and leader with a significant role in agricultural science, specializing in plant breeding and the genetics of plant immunity. Born in 1961, he graduated from the Azerbaijan Agricultural Institute in 1985 and later completed advanced training in the genetics of plant immunity at the Moscow Agricultural Academy. He holds a PhD in Agricultural Sciences and the title of Associate Professor, specializing in Plant Breeding and Seed Production.

Scientific and Professional Career:

Management Experience: Throughout his career, he has held many responsible positions. He served as the Director of the Sheki Regional Division of the Agrarian Science and Innovation Center (2019-2022) and as Deputy Head of the State Service under the Ministry of Agriculture. Since 2022, he has been serving as the Deputy Director of the Research Institute of Crop Husbandry.

Breeding Achievements: He is one of the country’s leading specialists in the field of barley breeding. He is the author of winter barley varieties such as “Garabagh 22”, “Nurana”, “Sadig”, and “Zami”, and holds several patents in this field.

International and Regional Projects: He has served as a national consultant in important regional projects funded by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), such as “Support for Seed Production Development” and “Wheat Rust Management.”

Scientific Contributions: He is the author of 57 scientific articles, 9 of which have been published in prestigious foreign scientific journals. For many years, as the head of the barley program, he has led scientific research on increasing the productivity of cereal crops.
