PhD in Biology, specializing in Genetics, Breeding, and Seed Production
Mohtasim Ahmadov is an outstanding expert with over 40 years of experience in the field of genetics, breeding, and seed production of agricultural crops, particularly cereals. Born in 1957, he graduated from Azerbaijan State University in 1981. In 1992, he earned his PhD in Biology, specializing in “Genetics,” from the Institute of General Genetics of the USSR Academy of Sciences in Moscow.
Scientific and Professional Career:
• Career Path: He began his career at the Research Institute of Crop Husbandry, where he served as a laboratory head and for many years (2000-2014) as Deputy Director. He also served as the Head and Deputy Head of the State Service for Registration of Plant Varieties and Seed Control under the Ministry of Agriculture.
• International Projects: He has participated as a national coordinator and consultant in many important projects of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO). He led projects on the formulation of the National Seed Policy and the development of the seed sector in Azerbaijan.
• Breeding Achievements: Mohtasim Ahmadov is the author of 15 implemented and 10 promising plant varieties. He is recognized as the author of fundamental research in the field of wheat breeding, genetics, and disease resistance.
• Practical Experience and Training: He has participated in international training programs in Mexico (CIMMYT), Italy, Turkey, and other countries, specializing in the management of plant genetic resources. He is the author of 39 scientific articles and theses.
Honorary Titles and Awards:
In recognition of his services to the development of agriculture in the Republic of Azerbaijan, he was awarded the honorary title of “Honored Agricultural Worker” by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in 2015.
Currently, he serves as a leading researcher in the “Primary Seed Production and Seed Quality” laboratory at the Research Institute of Crop Husbandry, where he leads the processes of cereal crop reproduction and quality control.
