Baku, Azerbaijan – “PFF Agro Consulting” LLC has held another field meeting in the regions to educate and support local farmers. The main focus of the meeting was to prevent common mistakes made during autumn wheat sowing and to discuss the essential steps required to increase productivity.
During the sessions, “PFF Agro” experts highlighted 5 key factors that require special attention during autumn sowing:
1. Seed Selection and Treatment
High-reproduction, disease-resistant seed varieties suitable for the local climate should be used. It is mandatory to treat seeds with fungicides and insecticides before sowing to minimize the risk of future root rot and pest infestations.
2. Proper Sowing Timing
Optimal sowing times must be determined according to the specific climatic conditions of each region. Early or late sowing weakens the plant’s overwintering capability and leads to thin stands.
3. Soil Analysis and Fertilization
Soil analysis should be conducted before planting, and phosphorus and potassium fertilizers should be applied during the primary plowing stage. This is vital for the formation of a robust root system.
4. Sowing Rate and Depth
Planting seeds too deep or too shallow reduces the germination rate. An optimal depth (on average 4-6 cm) must be maintained according to the field’s relief and soil type.
5. Weed and Pest Control
Maintaining a clean field during the initial stages of autumn wheat development is crucial. Selecting the right herbicides at the right time during the spring months can increase yield by 20-30%.
PFF Agro Consulting officials stated that such awareness-raising activities will continue throughout the season, providing farmers with both theoretical knowledge and practical on-site advice.
